3 Days of Design in Copenhagen : House of Grey’s Highlights
3 Days of Design in Copenhagen has become one of the Studio’s highlights in the annual design calendar. An event which captures and for us has taken over from Milan in terms of innovative designers, products and showcases creative collaborations and artistic shows. For three days the Danish capital transforms into the energetic focus of exhibitions, open showrooms and special events which draws visitors from across the world.
LOUISE ROE
The LOUISE ROE GALLERY in Copenhagen is a permanent concept space where art, design, and hospitality converge. For "3 Days of Design", the gallery collaborated with the multi-disciplinary space TABLEAU on an installation called PAPER WORK. TABLEAU handled the creative direction, set design, furniture production, and scenography for the installation, which utilised 30,000 recycled pieces of paper from a previous exhibit at the gallery. This shredded paper was turned into pulp to create an environmentally conscious labyrinth of paper pulp, featuring extending shelves and innovative design and it was something that truly inspired us.
TABLEAU
During our visit, we also explored TABLEAU, a space redefining the concept of retail environments. For the festival, TABLEAU hosted an exhibition called DOMESTIC PLEASURES, which invited creatives to design furniture which evokes feelings of home and safety. This exhibition marked a new creative direction for TABLEAU, emphasising community and bespoke collaborations with designers, much like our Studio’s ‘Creative Tribe’ philosophy. Noteworthy pieces included handmade lamps by Sigurd Schelde, stools by Ali Gallefoss, and the PERIMETER / WHOLE mirror by Alyssa Megan Lewis.
Spaces Within
The Swedish brand Spaces Within creates sculptural cabinet hardware from solid brass, honouring traditional craftsmanship by working in collaboration with a second-generation foundry in Florence. During our visit to their showroom, we appreciated the launch of their extended BLUNT series, which explores scale variations of their iconic cabinet knob. The exhibition itself was designed in collaboration with architect Daniel Kutlesovski, who also delves into the concepts of scale, texture, and tactility in his work.
Mari Koppanen
Last on our list of highlights is Finnish designer Mari Koppanen, who focuses on biomaterials and the artistic advancement of materials derived from fungi. Her diverse design portfolio includes furniture, pottery, and textiles. We were particularly enchanted by the Trapetsi lamps, which feature lighting designs made from form-pressed amadou composite combined with ceramic bases, beautifully bridging the gap between tradition and innovation.
We also wanted to take the opportunity to give a special mention to some of the other spaces we enjoyed visiting while in Copenhagen: Studio Oliver Gustav for creating the most serene retail environment, ‘Collage’ the Frama x Toogood collaboration - it is always beautiful to see friends of the Studio creating such thoughtful & considered events, and the new Kinraden store where all the jewellery is handcrafted using only recycled materials.
